Housing Rates and The Residence Halls Association

Each year, the UM Board of Regents votes in June to decide the budget of the next fiscal year including both tuition and housing. You can find more about all budget changes here. It is the duty of RHA to bring forward resident interests to the discussion of housing rate changes as outlined in our constitution.

In terms of housing, there was a successful vote for a cost increase of 1.9 percent. According to The University Record(2020), “The increase will meet rises in day-to-day operating costs while also supporting investments in public health measures to reduce transmission of COVID-19,”(Don Jordan). This is in line with the concerns of residents that RHA has advocated for with housing. Our statement on rates was as follows:
