Committees are the heart of RHA and they are open to all constituents. Joining an RHA committee is a great way to have your voice heard and make an impact on the Residence Halls. Committees meet once a week. Every RHA representative is required to serve on one RHA committee, but committee members are not required to attend the weekly RHA assembly meetings. Take a look at the committees below and check back for new postings throughout the year. Email rha.evp@umich.edu if you are interested in joining a committee!

Committee for a Diverse and Welcoming Community:

The Committee for a Diverse and Welcoming Community (CDW) is responsible for addressing areas of concern around diversity affecting students in the residence halls including, but not limited to, international student relations, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues, and multiculturalism. Particularly, this committee is charged with the development and implementation of programs to address those concerns. Last year they did a wide variety of things from looking at concerns of accessibility in housing, to painting a puzzle piece for a diversity mural.

Allocations and Budget Committee:

ABC deals with proposed legislation, messages, petitions, and other matters relating to the financial operations of RHA, including, but not limited to, the RHA budget, allocation requests, and the Community Council Fund. In addition to creating recommendations for the allocation of funds, ABC occasionally tackles other issues, such as the budgeting related to having newspapers in the residence halls. It is chaired by the Vice President of Finance.

Board of Safety, Security and Environmental Sustainability:

The Board of Safety, Security and Environmental Sustainability (BOSSES) exists to address safety and security issues in and around the residence halls, as well as to promote RHA’s commitment to environmental sustainability in the residence halls. Some examples of issues that BOSSES looked at last year was unlocked windows on ground floors, locks on the bathroom doors and sustainability education.

Internal Review Committee:

The Internal Review committee will look at and review RHA's documents each year. They primarily work on RHA's constitution and bylaws and submit any changes or improvements to the assembly. It it chaired by the Executive Vice President.

Programming and Services:

The Programing and Services Committee works to put on programs like Siblings Weekend and The A-MAIZE-ing Race. In addition, RHA provides the service of the RHA Movie Channel to residents living in the residence halls. This committee will be in charge of overseeing each of these services to the residents.

Housing Advocacy Committee:

The Housing Advocacy Committee addresses issues and concerns around the services and information provided by University Housing. Some of these services include, but are not limited to: dining services, facilities, information technology, ResComp, ResStaff and roommate selection programs. Last year one of their main projects was to look at the meal plan and entreé plus options on campus. They also addressed concerns such as missing card readers on laundry machines, and met with housing officials about long-term plans for housing.

The Rates Committee:

This committee meets with Housing Officials to help set the rates for the next school year. They look at various methods for cost savings. For example, in previous years they have worked to cut underutilized services like the in-room phones. If you are interested in reviewing the overall Housing Budget join this committee!
